Amazon Reinstatement Glossary

Every term you need to understand when navigating Amazon’s enforcement and appeals process — defined clearly and completely.

âš–ī¸ Section 3 Deactivation

A Section 3 deactivation is Amazon’s termination of a seller’s account under the Business Solutions Agreement. It is the most serious enforcement action Amazon takes, typically reserved for severe policy violations including inauthentic item sales, review manipulation, multiple accounts, or material breaches of the seller agreement.

🔍 ASIN Suppression

ASIN suppression occurs when Amazon removes a product listing from search results and prevents purchases, but does not formally deactivate the ASIN. The listing remains in your inventory but is invisible to customers, usually due to a pending compliance review, pricing error, or customer complaint investigation.

📋 Plan of Action (POA)

A Plan of Action is a structured appeal document required by Amazon to reinstate a suspended account or listing. It must contain a root cause analysis, completed corrective actions, and long-term preventative measures. Generic, template-based POAs are statistically likely to result in rejection.

📊 Account Health Rating (AHR)

Account Health Rating is Amazon’s metric-based score that evaluates a seller’s compliance with performance targets including Order Defect Rate, Late Shipment Rate, and policy adherence. A “Critical” rating may trigger automatic deactivation, while “At Risk” requires immediate corrective attention.

đŸ›Ąī¸ Authenticity Verification

Authenticity verification is Amazon’s process of validating that a seller’s products are genuine. This can involve invoice review, supplier contact verification, or physical product inspection via test buys. Suspicious findings trigger an “inauthentic” suspension — one of the most difficult types to appeal.

Šī¸ Intellectual Property Complaint

An intellectual property complaint is a claim filed by a rights holder alleging that a seller’s listing infringes on their trademark, copyright, or patent. Amazon takes these complaints seriously, and the primary resolution path involves direct communication with the rights holder to obtain a retraction.

🔗 Related Account Suspension

A related account suspension occurs when Amazon’s systems detect a link between a deactivated seller account and an active one. This link can be based on shared IP addresses, banking information, physical addresses, or device fingerprints. It is a leading cause of unexpected deactivations among otherwise compliant sellers.

đŸŽ¯ Executive Escalation

Executive escalation is the process of sending a complete, professionally packaged appeal to Amazon’s executive team after standard appeal channels have failed. This is appropriate only after multiple rejections and only when the appeal documentation is forensically sound and evidence-complete.

📉 Order Defect Rate (ODR)

Order Defect Rate is the percentage of orders that result in a negative buyer experience, including A-to-Z claims, chargebacks, and negative feedback. Amazon requires sellers maintain an ODR below 1%. Exceeding this threshold can trigger automatic account suspension.

📄 Letter of Authorization (LOA)

A Letter of Authorization is a document from a brand or rights holder explicitly granting a seller permission to sell their products on Amazon. LOAs are critical evidence in inauthentic and intellectual property appeals, and must include specific ASINs, seller name, and validity dates.

đŸ“Ļ FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon)

Fulfilled by Amazon is Amazon’s logistics service where sellers send inventory to Amazon warehouses and Amazon handles storage, packing, and shipping. FBA suspensions can freeze seller inventory and funds simultaneously with account deactivations.

đŸ”Ŧ Root Cause Analysis

Root cause analysis in the context of Amazon appeals is the forensic identification of the specific business process failure that led to the suspension — not the symptom. A clinically precise root cause that identifies a date, process, and scope is the single most important element of a successful appeal.
